Cook Biotech Incorporated Signs Agreement with TriOak Foods West Lafayette, IN - Cook Biotech Incorporated has signed a special supply agreement with TriOak Foods Incorporated, a leading innovator in the swine industry. TriOak Foods, Inc. home operations include a 22,500 sow base, raising over 420,000 market hogs. The company contracts with more than 130 independent livestock producers in southeast Iowa and western Illinois for their management expertise and the use of their production facilities in breeding, farrowing and finishing pigs. Cook Biotech, a COOK company, manufactures tissue-engineered medical products from a specific portion of the pig’s small intestine. This special tissue is harvested and developed into strong, pliable sheets that provide a rich environment for cell attachment and growth. These animal-derived sheets serve as biocompatible scaffolds to make medical products for surgical repair of hernias, wounds, burns and other soft-tissue injuries. “This new contract will provide Cook Biotech with the high-quality source material needed to meet the growing demand for small intestinal submucosa (SIS) medical products,” stated Cook Biotech’s production manager, Kevin Tepool. “By establishing this agreement, we are able to use tissues that, in the past, had been thrown away by farmers, which in turn provides benefits to both parties.” Cook Biotech Incorporated, located in West Lafayette, Indiana, researches, develops and manufactures products based on tissue scaffolds derived from extracellular matrix (ECM) technology. Cook Biotech is actively developing ECM biomaterials for numerous medical purposes. Medical products utilizing Cook’s patented ECM technology are currently marketed worldwide for use in wound management and surgical repair of soft tissue. Together with a network of medical practitioners, Cook Biotech is identifying the medical needs most compatible with ECM technology and developing products to meet these needs. With international headquarters in Bloomington, Ind., privately held COOK® (www.cookgroup.com/) is a leading designer, manufacturer and global distributor of minimally invasive medical device technology for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Since its founding in 1963, Cook has created innovative technologies for stents and stent-grafts, catheters, wire guides, introducer needles and sheaths, embolization coils, tissue-engineered medical biomaterials, vena cava filters, implanted cardiac lead extraction equipment and other minimally invasive medical devices.
