Cook Incorporated Introduces Mesh for Inguinal Hernia Repair Bloomington, Ind. – Surgisis® IHM™, a cost-effective inguinal hernia matrix device specifically configured for use in reinforcing soft tissue during both open and laparoscopic repair of an inguinal hernia, is now available from Cook Incorporated. This hernia repair mesh utilizes Cook’s unique SIS Technology, a collagen biomatrix that supports remodeling by host tissues. Surgisis IHM is made using multiple layers of small intestinal submucosa (SIS). Available in an 8x13 cm rectangular shape and designed to provide excellent handling characteristics, Surgisis IHM offers surgeons long-term biomechanical strength while conforming easily to complex anatomy. This terminally sterilized, naturally occurring biomaterial derived from SIS is not cross-linked. With an 18-month shelf life, Surgisis IHM can be stored at room temperature and is readily available for use. Following implantation, tissues adjacent to the SIS matrix begin delivering cells and nutrients, leading to capillary growth within the matrix. SIS is gradually replaced as the host system reinforces and rebuilds the weakened site. Eventually, the body’s tissue grows completely into the surgical site while SIS maintains needed tissue support. For more information, visit www.cooksurgical.com . Surgisis IHM is manufactured by Cook Biotech Incorporated ( www.cookbiotech.com ) and is marketed through Cook Surgical, a division of Cook Incorporated.
