Cook Biotech Building Corporate Information: About Cook Biotech Incorporated
Cook Biotech Incorporated (CBI), located in West Lafayette, Indiana, was established in 1995 to research, develop and manufacture products based on extracellular matrix (ECM) Technology. ECM biomaterials are known to have a unique scaffold structure and composition that benefits tissue remodeling. ECMs have many potential uses for implants and grafts that reinforce or repair damaged or diseased tissue structures. CBI has developed special processes to make the ECM Technology available for various medical and scientific uses. Together with a network of research scientists and medical practitioners, CBI is identifying the medical needs most compatible with ECM Technology and developing products to meet those needs.

CBI has developed and currently manufactures numerous ECM-based medical products in an FDA registered and ISO 9001 certified facility for worldwide distribution. Oasis® Wound Matrix is used to manage a wide range of dermal wounds. Surgisis® Soft Tissue Graft, in multiple strength configurations, is used by surgeons to reinforce many types of weakened tissue. Stratasis® Urethral Sling is used to treat urinary incontinence. CBI supports an active research program and, as a result, has many more ECM-based products in its development pipeline.

In addition to medical devices, CBI manufactures ECM products specifically for scientific research and veterinary medicine. The naturally-occurring ECM provides a cell growth substrate that simulates in vivo conditions in an in vitro model. Cells grown on an ECM substrate express more natural phenotypes in culture than they do when grown on plastic tissue culture substrates. This characteristic is particularly useful in cell-culture research. CBI provides products for such research under the trade name vivoSIS® cell-culture substrates. These products have applications in the study of cell growth, proliferation, chemotaxis and chemoinvasion. Veterinarians use VET BIOSIST™ products for soft tissue repair in dogs, cats, horses, rabbits, and a variety of other animals.
